Hot Rivet Tool
Here is a picture of the hot rivet tool that Lee made. It worked great. We used a 1" piece of steel plate stock with a similar depression for a bucking tool on the head side of the rivet. Fred heated the rivets red hot with a torch and some bricks to contain the heat. Then my dad place the rivet in the frame, I backed it up with the bucking tool and Lee used his air chisel with the special tool to pound the rivet. You had about 20 seconds to start pounding or the rivet would be too cold to set right. When done right they grip much better than a bolt. It took us a couple of hours to set 16 rivets along with making some custom bucking tools. Maybe some of the guys would have some interest in how this was done. |

Engine
At this point I have installed the cam shaft, tappets and valves. I just set the crank shaft to check end play and get ready to plastigage the main bearings. |
